First charcoal burn of the year

Here’s the kiln fired up. It took a day and a half before I shut it down. Since then I’ve been waiting for cool down and on Monday I’ll be opening up and bagging the contents (assuming it’s not just a pile of ash – as if!).

But today we’re off to Damson Day in the Lyth Valley, Cumbria. Pictures to follow.

  1. Congratulations on your first burn Richard – hope you have a bumper harvest. Out of interest – what types of wood did you load it with?

  2. Hi Mark,

I charged it with a mix of beech, ash and sycamore, felled Winter of 2008/9. The kiln’s been charged since last September so it was good and dry. Looking forward to taking the lid off!
